Wire Transfers

A Wire Transfer—also known as an “Electronic Funds Transfer” or “International Money Transfer” — is a payment made electronically from a sending bank, on behalf of its customer, to a receiving bank for a beneficiary customer.

Electronic wire transfers are fast and secure and can be sent and received in all major currencies and in many exotic currencies.

  • Payment requests received by our deadline (1:00 p.m. using Butterfield Online, or 11:15 a.m. at one of our Banking Centres) are processed on the same day.
  • Processed payments can be delivered to the beneficiary's bank the same business day (for payments in Canadian (CAD) and US Dollars (USD)), the next business day (for payments in Great British Pounds (GBP), Euros (EUR), Swiss Francs (CHF), Japanese Yen (JPY) and Australian Dollars (AUD)), or within two business days (for other currencies).

  • Wire transfers are issued using sophisticated, secure networks to ensure quick and safe transfers of payments.

Please refer to our fee schedule for our wire transfer charges. Please note: if you send a wire using Butterfield Online the fees are significantly lower than those associated with manual requests initiated in person at our Banking Centres.
