Butterfield Merchant PCI

Did you know that customers’ card transaction records are among information that data attackers target the most? To ensure that card transactions occur in a safe, secure environment all merchants are required to comply with the industry standard, called PCI DSS.

What is PCI DSS?

Comprising the five major card networks, the PCI Security Standards Council created PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards) that apply to every business that stores, processes or transmits any cardholder data. Nobody is exempt. If you don't take steps to protect cardholder data, it could result in your business being fined for non-compliance or worse, your customer’s cardholder data being compromised. All merchants are required to comply with PCI DSS to protect themselves and their customers against a breach of cardholder information.

The Butterfield Merchant PCI Programme

Butterfield has partnered with Trustwave, a qualified security assessor and an approved scanning vendor for the card brands, to deliver merchant solutions to help you manage the process of becoming PCI DSS compliant. Butterfield provides this service free of charge to our merchants.

How to Become PCI Compliant

  • Please visit and click the “Get Started” button.
  • Register your account. You will need to provide your company name, merchant ID, basic address information and a valid e-mail address.
  • Answer a few simple questions about your business environment and how you process credit card transactions — at all times, please feel free to contact the Bank if you have any questions.
  • Choose the PCI Wizard to help you walk through your PCI validation requirements.

Your compliance status will be reported back to Butterfield and you will be contacted directly by a Merchant Services representative to discuss the results and provide you with information regarding the steps you need to take to secure your customers’ credit card information.

Please ensure that all information submitted is true and complete and properly reflects the way you process and handle cardholder data.
