Supporting the community

As Cayman’s community bank with over 40 years of service, we do more than simply offer financial services.  At Butterfield, making a valuable contribution to the local community in which we live and work is very important to us, and we take pride in fostering a culture of corporate giving. Through our sponsorships and charitable donations programme, we dedicate significant funding each year to non-profit organizations, worthy causes and initiatives that enrich and embrace five key areas: education, the community, the arts, health and sports.
People are the cornerstone of Butterfield’s strength, and our community commitment is central to our key core values.

Our annual education grant

We are proud to support the development and aspirations of young people in the Cayman Islands, which has opened a world of learning opportunities and advancements for generations – ranging from pre-schoolers to leading university students.

Our Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship awards up to $160,000 per annum to an accredited four-year university. As part of our extensive corporate giving programme, we provide schools with musical instruments, library books, computers and smart boards. We sponsor classrooms that are dedicated to providing an ideal space to perform the arts or to learn a foreign language. Whatever the requirement, Butterfield has always set an example in the community to support the educational needs of our youth.

In 2011, we took our commitment to the next level with the introduction the Butterfield Education Grant, which awards up to US$20,000 per year to one or two licensed primary and/or secondary educational institution(s) in the Cayman Islands. The Butterfield Education Grant specifically supports the development of facilities or programmes, which directly improves the level of curriculum or classroom learning for students and promotes enrichment of education locally.

We would like to congratulate George Town Primary School on being awarded this year’s Butterfield Annual Education Grant.

George Town Primary School PTA prepared a submission for the purchase of a new outdoor playground for the school which was desperately needed. The proposal included a video by the students and was creative, heartfelt and expressed a great need for the new facility.

Butterfield would also like to recognize all other schools who submitted for 2012. Look out for information on next year’s grant process in spring 2013.
