The prestigious and highly sought after Butterfield Bank Undergraduate
Scholarship for 2008 was awarded to Anika Conolly, daughter of Rose Welds and
Each year the scholarship is awarded to a student who has a proven track
record of achieving high grades, being involved in community activities,
demonstrating leadership qualities and has secured a place at a reputable
university. The scholarship supports the recipient for four years of study with
up to US$40,000 awarded per year.
Butterfield’s Samantha Nehra said, “The 2008 candidates were of the highest
calibre to date, so the interviewing panel had a very tough decision to make.”
Anika Conolly was overly qualified having attended Havergal College for Girls
in Toronto for the last two years on a full scholarship where she was awarded
three prizes as a Junior. The Josephine Clark prize was for character,
consideration and commitment to others as well as co-curricular activities,
perseverance in studies and honesty in words and actions. She also won The
Boarder Cup for outstanding leadership and contribution to the life of the
boarding school as well as The Character Award which was only given to 10 of the
graduating 120 students.
Anika will be studying Economics at the University of Western, Ontario. “We
wish her continued success as she develops further, congratulations Anika!”
