Banking on the future: Opportunities for Caymanian Youth.

Q&A with Butterfield’s Laverne Jackson Manager, Human Resources

Tell us about the summer internship at Butterfield
Over the last ten years, we have seen over eighty students come through our doors as part of the Butterfield summer internship programme. In 2014, we took on a total of fifteen interns comprising high school students, recent graduates and college students on break for summer employment.

What kind of work are students involved in?
Based on interest, the students work in various parts of the Bank, including: Branch Banking, Central Operations, Card Services, Electronic Banking, Human Resources, IT, Finance and Facilities Management, to name a few.

Why does Butterfield feel it is important to offer students this opportunity?
Butterfield is committed to the development of young people in the Cayman Islands and it has been our privilege to assist young Caymanians in obtaining on-the-job experience that will serve them well in their future careers. Over the years, many students have had their first exposure to the work environment with Butterfield and we see them continue to work with the Bank summer after summer throughout their educational years. Some even go on to be hired by the Bank and become permanent employees.
