The Banker Names Butterfield “Bank of the Year” in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands For Third Consecutive Year

Hamilton, Bermuda and George Town, Grand Cayman—1 December 2015: International banking industry publication, The Banker, today named The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited and Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited (collectively “Butterfield”) the recipients of its “Bank of the Year 2015” Awards in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. Butterfield was similarly named The Banker’s Bank of the Year in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands in 2013 and 2014.

The Banker, a Financial Times publication, is a highly regarded UK-based periodical that each year selects banks in over 100 countries to receive their Bank of the Year Awards. In making their selections, The Banker’s global editorial team considers not only a bank’s financial performance, but also strategic initiatives, innovative use of technology and service delivery channels, and efforts to extend banking services to all parts of the community. A full listing of Bank of the Year 2015 Award winners will be published in the December edition of The Banker.

Michael Collins, Butterfield’s Chief Executive Officer, said “Butterfield is honoured to, once again, be recognised as The Banker’s Bank of the Year in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. Receiving a Bank of the Year accolade is among the most valued accomplishments in the industry, and earning that distinction in two key markets for three years running is a matter of much pride at the Bank. The awards reflect Butterfield’s commitment to our communities, and the strength of our team and their efforts in ensuring that we are continually providing our customers with leading products and exemplary service.”

Conor O’Dea, Butterfield’s President & Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited, said, “Bermuda and the Cayman Islands are Butterfield’s two largest markets and longest-served communities. Over the past twelve months, we have enhanced our presence through the acquisition of select personal and corporate banking business from HSBC in Cayman, and the announcement of our planned acquisition of the Private Banking Investment Management and Trust business of HSBC in Bermuda. We believe that our demonstrated commitment to Bermuda and Cayman, the expertise and professionalism of our people, and the substantial progress we have made in building sustainable shareholder value are among the key reasons that Butterfield has again been named Bank of the Year.”

In addition to being named The Banker’s Bank of the Year, Butterfield was named Global Finance’s best bank in Bermuda in its 2015 selections of the World’s Best Developed Market Banks. Butterfield was also named Best Private Bank in Bermuda by Euromoney (2014), Global Finance (2015) and PWM/The Banker (2015). Butterfield Trust was named 2015 Trust Company of the Year at the tenth annual Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Private Client Awards.
