12K Raised for Young Minds

(Grand Cayman – 11 April 2012) The 20th Annual St. Patrick’s Day 5K Irish Jog held on Friday, 16 March 2012 attached over 1,050 enthusiastic runners, walkers and joggers to the Britannia Golf Course. This   was the 2nd largest turn-out in the event’s 20-year history, and was again another great success.

As in previous years, all of the proceeds raised from the Irish Jog are donated to a local charity.    Butterfield and Grand Cayman Beach Suites – the co-sponsors of the event – proudly donated $12,749 to the Fuelling Young Minds Programme. Sean Collins, Managing Director of Mise en Place, explained that a portion of the proceeds this year was donated from the company as per their pledge to donate $1 for   every $5 raised, bringing the total proceeds to a new record!

“We are overwhelmed by the contribution to our Fuelling Young Minds programme that the Irish 5K jog generated. This will help achieve our goal of providing every student in the four Government schools that we cater to, a balanced healthy lunch each day. I would like to thank Butterfield, Grand Cayman Beach Suites and all those who participated in the jog for their support for this worthy cause”, said Sean. 100%    of the funds collected will be distributed in the form of lunch cards to councilors at each school. The councilors will then distribute the lunch cards to their students accordingly with the objective of every student receiving a complete meal.

“It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic participants once again partake in Cayman’s most popular fun walk/run for charity and we are so pleased that this year was such as tremendous success,” said Butterfield’s Rebecca Ebanks. “The Irish Jog has truly grown throughout the years and we are very proud that for our 20th anniversary we were able to raise the largest amount to date”.

Marina Flynn of Grand Cayman Beach Suites commented, “Grand Cayman Beach Suites management     and staff were so pleased with the turn out for this year’s Jog. This year’s charity “Fuelling Young Minds”     is a very worthy programme. Thank you to all those who participated, donated prizes and volunteered    their time. Being Irish it makes me truly proud. The GCBS family as always, are looking forward to next year’s event”.
